A fake tail adds volume, and fullness to your horse’s/pony’s tail for shows. Can be returned if it doesn’t match. All come with a cover bag.
These tails become very poofy after being washed, and gently brushed. Tails might already come washed, and brushed.
Real horse hair.
Tapered ends. A very natural-looking tail. Can be trimmed. The sleek top attachment can be hidden easily (hence the difference in price from the knob top fake tails). Different lengths, and weights available. Everything is listed when scrolling through the options.
If the colour is not a perfect match, might be able to make it work if it’s ‘blended’ in. I find with the sorrel colours, that if it matches one of the colours in the real tail, it can usually work (see photo). Hang/attach the tail to truly see if it will work (don’t just hold the tail beside the real tail).

*EXTRA FEATURE: hair strands falling out is normal. As tails age, more hairs falling out is normal. To help prevent/reduce this, I’ve added clear, Contact Cement glue to the joints. Globs of excess glue that may be visible, can be removed with nail polish remover.
*A fake tail, and the tail braid, should be taken out after showing as soon as possible. Docks are very sensitive. Fakes hung for a long time, can cause damage.
NEVER leave a fake/tail braid in for 2 days straight. The dock needs a break. It can be re-done that night/next morning *
A fake be used with the tail unbraided, or braided.
Tails should be ‘pulled up’ (see photo), anytime when the horse isn’t being ridden- in the trailer, in the stall, including in the stall between classes. The shavings create a ‘higher’ floor, so it’s quite easy for the horse to step on their fake, and rip it out, or the tail could fall apart from being stepped on.
HOW TO MEASURE: To determine the minimum length you need, measure from bottom of dock, to bottom of fetlocks, in inches. 1- 2 inches longer than your measurement is ideal. *If they don’t have much tail at the bottom of their tail, I definitely recommend adding on 2 inches to your measurement*. See photo. As a braider, my preference for length, would be hanging it near the bottom of the dock, so that it doesn’t interfere with the braid. Fakes that are very long, can cause bulk/a bulge under the braid. Please measure your pony/horse to ensure the length needed.
❌Fake tails are NOT meant for daily use. They are not meant for horses that have short tails, and need a longer tail to swat at flies ❌
Care Instructions (Please See Photos For More Information): wash with same shampoo, and conditioner you use to wash your horse’s real tail. Hang to dry. Once dry, spray with Show Sheen. Brush EXTREMELY gently. Having a few hairs come out is normal. When not in use, hang freely (not in the cover bag). The cover bag should just be used for bringing the tail from one place to another. Don’t store it in a tack trunk laying down. If the tail is not kept straight, it may create a curl.
TO REMOVE CURL: put water/Show Sheen on the curl, and gently brush.

Jet Black- solid black.
Natural Black- lighter than jet black. Contains red, and white hairs, throughout. The bottom is frequently reddish in colour. *Some Chestnuts have a Natural Black tail*.
Light Sorrel- very light *SOLD OUT*
Medium Sorrel- mostly red, with some white, and black hairs, naturally mixed in.
Dark Sorrel- a bit darker than Medium Sorrel.
**PLEASE NOTE:
Can be hard to show the exact colour/shade with light grey, yellowish/cream, white, light flaxen, and medium flaxen in photos.
Can send a free small sample of, light grey, and light flaxen.
Light Grey- very light, and bright. Cream, and black strands. Has a yellowish tone, as shown in the photo in natural/outdoor lighting. It’s ideal that their tail is washed, when trying to see if the fake matches.
Yellowish/Cream- very yellow. Colour will get duller/not be so bright once being used. Can also whiten up a bit, by washing with Quic Silver (See photos for more information).
White- white.
